advocated in Washington, D.C., last month as part of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons National Orthopaedic Leadership Conference.
Mariam Hakim Zargar, MD, AAOS Councilor and COS Board Member (left), Jenna Bernstein, MD, COS Secretary/Treasurer (center), Karen Sutton, MD, COS Member (right), and Susan Schaffman, COS Executive Director, discussed key healthcare priorities with Congressional staff members on the "Hill".
COS President, Tarik Kardestuncer, MD and Michael Aronow, MD, COS Immediate Past President joined the virtual meetings.
The AAOS and COS advocacy issues shared with Connecticut’s Congressional and Senate delegation focused on:
· Medicare Payment Reform – Stave off 2023 reimbursement cuts and provide for an inflationary update. Physician members of the U.S. House of Representatives introduced legislations to protect physician reimbursement cuts. READ MORE.
· *Prior Authorization Reforms - Improve Seniors’ timely access to care through changes to prior authorization process in Medicare Advantage plans. U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill with bipartisan support. The U.S. Senate is considering a similar bill.
· Safety from Violence for Healthcare Employees (SAVE) – protection for healthcare workers.
· Federal Workers’ Compensation Patients' Access to Care was also discussed with CT Senators.
